Possible Introduction of New Requirements for Rectors of Private Universities

In Uzbekistan, a strengthening of the qualification requirements for rectors of private higher education institutions is planned. The draft government decision stipulates that a rector of a private university must possess an academic degree and have at least five years of managerial experience in the higher education system.

The changes are proposed to be included in the licensing procedures approved by the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution dated February 21, 2022, No. 80. The draft decision proposes that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, in collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies, be given two months to align the relevant regulatory legal documents with the new requirements.

For now, these requirements are just proposals for public discussion. They may become mandatory only after the final decision is adopted and officially published.
