TASHKENT, September 17 — Sputnik. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan firmly condemns the attempt to attack the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia using unmanned aerial vehicles.
The ministry's statement emphasizes full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and notes that any actions threatening sacred sites, peaceful civilians, and civil infrastructure are unacceptable. Uzbekistan calls on all parties to exercise restraint, adhere to international law, and respect the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of states.
This refers to the events that took place on September 15. The coalition led by Saudi Arabia reported that a drone heading towards Mecca was intercepted and destroyed south of the city before entering the prohibited airspace.
The Saudi side stated that the drone was launched by Houthi forces from Yemen. The Houthis, in turn, denied targeting Mecca or any other religious sites.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan also expressed support for efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region, preventing further escalation of the conflict, and ensuring peace, security, and stability. Uzbekistan condemned rocket and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia.
