In Uzbekistan, women serving sentences will be given the opportunity to enter higher educational institutions and study remotely. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev made this announcement at a festive event held at the Koksaroy residence on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Most women serving sentences in institutions have only secondary education and lack professional skills. Some have expressed a desire to study at higher educational institutions.
Therefore, a program called 'New Life' will be launched to work with these women. They will be trained in vocational programs for 3-6 months and will receive certificates.
Those wishing to enter universities will take exams at the correctional facilities where they are serving their sentences. Those accepted on a contract basis will be granted interest-free loans with the condition of repayment after completing their sentences and finding employment.
